Should I accept?

I need help :(

Here is my situation…I was accepted into Ashland University’s Ashbrook Scholar program a couple of weeks ago and I accepted. I am also applying to Emmanuel College, Suffolk University, Umass Boston and Umass Amherst just in case I don’t get enough $$ from Ashland.
My question is do you think I can still get into a great law school if I go to Ashland? Like BU, BC or even Harvard or Yale?

Please give me some advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Admission to law school comes from GPA and your LSAT scores and is not as heavily based on where you went for undergrad. If the reason you’re not applying to higher tier schools is low SAT/ACT scores, then your LSAT scores will likely not be what you need to get into a top law school either–though there are many great law schools.

Thank you for responding. I got a 1610 on my SAT…but you see I came to the U.S during the 8th grade and spoke almost no English. I know my SAT scores are low but I plan on preparing myself for the LSAT.

My gpa is a 3.2
I have taken 2 AP classes AP US History(4) and AP Language and Comp.(3)
Right now I’m taking AP Gov, AP English Lit and AP Spanish Lit.

My grades were always good Bs and As but I got Ds on my math classes…that is what hurt my gpa and transcript.

Another thing I really like the special program @ Ashland University. I really feel it will prepare me for law school. I’m thinking of double majoring in Political sci. and History (or International relation) and minoring in Spanish (figure the minor should be fairly easy)

It sounds like the program at Ashland University might be a good match for you then. The important part of preparing for law school is critical thinking, not information, so keep that in mind. Focus on what you think you’d enjoy and don’t worry so much about getting into a top law school. Internationals often get the idea that it’s all about school rank–but getting a job and being happy is about so much more than that. Good luck =)

yes, I agree. at the end of the day, you will be able to practice law with a degree from many universities. take the good fit, do well and make it work for you.

As far as I’ve heard, it’s better to do well at a less-known university than not do as well at a much more prestigious university.

So unless those law schools have any affiliations or programs with any of the schools mentioned, you should be fine. Also, you should call those law schools that you’d like to attend and ask them to see what answer what they say.

Good luck with the rest of your applications and decisions!

Thank you everyone for answering my post. I really appreciate your advice and now I feel a lot more confident accepting the program at Ashland University.

I like this site a lot I have been reading and I learned a lot from your responses thanks.
:)

Congrats on your acceptance into the Ashbrook program! I myself also applied to the program, and I know this is off topic, but I was wondering how long it was before you got notified of your acceptance? I my top two school choices are Ashland, in Ashbrook, and Hillsdale College. I am planing on pursuing Poli Sci, and am really hoping to go to one of these schools!

Thank you! I was very excited when I got my accepted letter. I felt very comfortable when I went to my interview and the people that I met were so nice, I know Ashland is right for me now (: it was always my toop school but I was a bit worried. Anyways, I’m so glad you applied too…I received my acceptance letter about a week after i think? I had my interview Nov 23rd and I received my acceptance letter soon after that, the letter said Nov 30th for the date it was written. I know they have a great poli sci program, I had the opportunity to do a summer program and sit in a class with one of the professors and he was great.

Good luck I hope you hear from them soon :)

As long as you do well as everyone else said, then you’d be fine. Just try to have a high GPA like a 3.8+ if you could and do well on your LSAT. Participating in clubs and getting a few leadership positions would benefit also imho. A lot of kids that went to grad. school I know, did plenty of clubs along with leadership positions in my fraternity and the clubs.
