I took a gap year between high school and college and in a few months of that year I worked on a medical marijuana farm to finance a trip to Europe (the farm was legal). Should I include that in the additional details or no? Will the commodity/crop possibly hurt my chances at being admitted to schools?
Why do you have to say what the crop was?

As with most things, probably you may want to consider your audience and then how well you write your essay.
Are you applying to Hampshire college? They might welcome such an essay.
Are you applying to Wheaton College of Illinois? Not such a great audience for that essay I’m guessing.
Are you legally able to work on a marijuana farm prior to 21? I know dispensaries require one to be 21.
My advice would be to mention the farm work but leave out the marijuana descriptor.
