should I apply EA

Now currently my act is 30 but i’m gonna study like mad and hopefully get a 32. so for sake of discussion, let’s assume my ACT is 32.

So…is EA harder than RD at NU, or the opposite? Chance me plz?

Applying to Weinberg

catholic school in MN

32 ACT
3.83 UW
hardest possible courseload
AP: English comp 5, apush 4 (*** studied so much) Calc ab 3 (not submitting)
PSAT commended (well I better be…got a 202 so we will see)
summa cum laude, national latin exam (■■ yeah)

white male, whiter than…the whitest person you can think of

2 sport varsity athlete junior and senior years
founder of school’s economics/marketing club
studied entrepreneurship for 2 weeks this summer at Notre Dame
math club and volunteer corps all 4 years
50 hours of service in fresh and soph year each, 100 in junior year
did a book drive that raised ~$3200 in books and supplies for veterans in a VA hospital
various other ECs

common app essay is great, i think.
The “why NU” essay needs…help.

how do I look? questions? comments? concerns?

oh and I visited Northwestern in april, nice place.

Northwestern does not have EA; it has binding Early Decision.

sorry, I knew that. NU is my top choice, so should i apply ED?

Yeah, you should apply ED unless you expect to need to compare financial aid offers.

Assuming my family’s income is ~$100k, do you think I would qualify for any FA?

And am I competitive in the ED pool?

also for my NU essay, when I toured my tour guide talked about a “trash talking chess club”…but i cannot find it on the NU website. does this exist? should i include it?

You could possibly get some kind of FA if your family income is 100k. But I wouldn’t consider you to be competitive in the pool though, sorry. You have no hooks, and your EC’s are average.

So which pool is more competitive, ED or RD? I want to maximize my chances obviously.

ED tends to be more competitive but there’s also a higher acceptance rate. If Northwestern is your top choice, there is no disadvantage to applying ED.

Yeah you’re going to have to fill out RD apps regardless probably because you are not that competitive no offense. I’d apply rd and save myself the heartache.

ED might boost your chances. If NU is your first choice, I recommend applying ED so if you don’t get in, at least you’ll know you gave it your best shot and you can still apply to other schools.
