Hi all,

I’m entering my final year in IB and I’m uncertain whether I should apply the business schools in Queen’s, UBC or UOFT. This is because I didn’t take business in IB and GCSE. I originally planned to become an engineering but I feel like is a waste becoming one because engineering is such a competitive field. I understand Business is also a competitive field but at least the content should be more interesting and easier to understand than in engineering (for those who did HL physics would understand how frustrating thermodynamics is). My school’s career adviser said to me that the first two years taught in Business is generally the basics. Is it possible for someone to learn all of IB business and the basics in three months before the start of university?

Furthermore, do I stand any chance in getting to these business schools with a score of 34/42 and a predicted grade of ‘A’ for my extended essay? I’m doing more technical subjects like HL physics and HL bio which should give them an impression that I’m not a kid who fools around like HL Art. The minimum requirements for these universities especially in Canada is fairly low like the min for UBC is 24 (they accept people in my school with 27 to business). The reason why I’m considering business as an option because I lack chemistry which is a prerequisite to get into the school of engineering (though you don’t need any chem in civil). In the business school their only prerequisite subject is SL or HL maths.

Which business major do you think is easier and more beneficially to my future accounting, marketing??? (preferably something which isn’t taught in high school so I can start from nothing)
