A little background: My dad has been unemployed since 06/29 and he’s been receiving unemployment benefit until recently he went to the hospital because of a stroke (08/06/18) and now he is on disability. Our income dramatically decreased from 47k to roughly 37k. I read that even if you do apply for special circumstances appeal, you might not receive additional aid. Considering the verification process takes 30 days and the efforts to go along with this process, it is worth the time?
Contact the financial aid office at your college/university and start the Special Circumstances process immediately. Until the paperwork is on file there, you won’t know if there will be a difference in your aid or not. Don’t miss a chance to get more aid just because it takes a bit of effort on your part.
Ah the effort isn’t much of an issue, it’s the 30 days process since I need to pay for my books and parking space. I just want to avoid asking for loan as much as possible. However, I will take your advice and start the process immediate.
It might not take the whole 30 days, and if you want to avoid taking q bigger loan then you sure do want to try to get this done fast to see if you get more grant money.
If you do not apply, you will get nothing more and you’ll have to pay for your books and parking anyway.
If you do apply and they do take more time to process your request, you’ll get the money and can repay whatever source you used to get the books and parking (a loan, a credit card, your savings account).
