Oh, I plan to do Pre-Med

I would not be surprised at all if you were accepted to both schools, in fact, it’s probably likely!

Selectivity-wise, BC and NYU are very similar, they have very similar SAT ranges, and being in the city, they both attract some of the same types of students. I wouldn’t say one is better than the other, they’re both excellent schools in their own right, they both are similarly rigorous academically, but they also have some very different features as well. BC is a much more traditional college experience, i.e. Gothic buildings, cohesive campus, lots of school spirit, sports, etc. Whereas NYU is far more diverse and is much more an amalgamation of varying interests and people-types. NYU has an open and urban campus with buildings scattered around, but while BC is probably less cosmopolitan, its extremely close proximity to Boston makes the whole urban factor negligible.

Being ranked number one in your class (unless homeschooled, of course) with 1400+/1600 SATs, almost guarantees your admission to these schools if your essays & teacher recs are of similiar quality.

thanks for the replies!

simpson98, thanks for your detailed response…my initial understanding was that they are both similar…but I wasn’t too sure because I had heard that NYU is considered with such high regard because of Stern and Tisch while CAS (which is what I’m applying to) is not so highly regarded…but you have cleared up my doubts… :)

both school are highly regarded. but i do think that stern at NYU really gets the big props…if ur comparing carroll to stern, then stern all the way. otherwise, i think both are equally good.

if i were to choose, i would choose BC…that is, if i don’t take Stern into consideration. i’m applying to both and i’m not sure if i’m gonna do stern or just CAS at NYU.
