Should I apply test-optional for Rutgers-New Brunswick CS? [international, 1430 SAT (770M, 680RW), IB 41/45]

Hey everyone. I’m an international student that has pretty solid extracurriculars and the area of Rutgers in particular is fit perfectly for me. The faculty is pretty top notch as well. Early action seems to be the move for me however I got a 1430 on my SAT (770 Maths 660RW) and I don’t know if it’s enough to be honest. I’m doing IB with the maximum rigor offered and my grade is 41/45. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Yes you should submit - no matter the major.

Good luck.

Rutgers admits by college, not major.

And your scores are in-range for Rutgers, so it’s better to submit them than not to.

Rutgers seems to love test scores, it’s our flagship and several of my kids’ friends were rejected going TO while others with similar stats got in submitting scores. My son with a 1390 3.7 uwgpa got in a few years ago.

What applies as in-range exactly? Sorry I’m not really familiar with these terms. I looked at the Common Data Set and saw that my maths score is above the 75th percentile while my reading and writing sits around the 25th-50th percentile. No data is given in a composite matter. Does this suffice?

Yes. And as an international applicant you’ll be better off submitting these scores, IMO.

Thanks for the feedback. One last thing. I only plan on attending NB however would it be a plus if I ticked the “Yes” option for this?

"If it’s not possible to admit you to any of your choices, would you want to be considered for admission to other available schools at Rutgers? "*

Yes, but if you only want to attend SAS at Rutgers NB, then it really doesn’t matter.

Since I put down School of Engineering as my second choice I guess it does matter. Thanks! This was my first time using the forum and it was much more helpful than Reddit.

About half of enrolled students last year didn’t submit test scores so let’s not jump to conclusions - they appear to love them that much.

That said, yes you should submit a 1430.
