Should I apply to a HYP school early if someone from my area has already been recruited?

I don’t want to give too much away, but someone from my region who’s in my grade was athletically recruited in freshman year for the same HYP school that I want to apply to SCEA this fall. I doubt they’ll take multiple kids from my region in the early round, especially since I’m not an international award winner/super genius, etc.

Anyone have any insights or tips to offer?

No college has a min/max/quota. Apply for the college you want, knowing that it is a reach for all.

The athletic recruit is not competing for the same slot as you. S/he is only competing against other applicants of the same gender/sport/position.

Good luck.

  1. Make sure you apply to safeties and reaches that you would be delighted to attend
  2. Make sure your GPA/SAT/ACT are well within the range of the HYP school
  3. Go for it

A few comments:

–Apply wherever you want without regard to what others are doing.

–An athletic recruit is more or less put in a different pile from other applicants. I don’t think your application will be impacted by having an athletic recruit from your region.

–Harvard has an acceptance rate of under 5%. It is great to go for a reach school or two if you are a viable candidate, but be sure you have a well rounded application list that also includes match and safety schools that appear affordable and that you would be happy to attend.
