I am a high school senior and I have been accepted into UCSB, UCR, UCI, CSULB, SJSU and CSUSM. My intended major is international business but I am not entirely sure if that is what I want to do. Also I did receive the Pell Grant and Cal Grant which covers the majority of the entire cost of these colleges, but if I were to choose UCSB I would still have to pay $12, 150. The problem is that these colleges were not my first choices as I would have wanted to get into UCSD, SDSU, UCLA or Cal Poly Slo. Should I enroll in one the colleges I have been accepted to or should I attend community college first and then try my chances at applying to my dream schools again? Thanks.
None of your first choice schools are have a guaranteed transfer admission but if you do not want waste money figuring put what you want to study then going to CC might be wise financially. You have some very good options from your accepted school list so the decision is up to you. A happy student is a successful student so figure out which path that will be.
Dream schools are schools that want you as a student so you have several from which to choose.
Check out the Transfer success statistics at the CC you would intend to attend.
Unless you are really unsure of your potential major and simply want to get your GE’s out of the way in a low cost manner, it may be ultimately be more cost effective for you to attend a four-year school using Cal and Pell grants - even if the school is not your first choice.
Dream schools is kind of a silly concept. College is what you make of it. As others note above, you will need to qualify as a transfer, which , is again competitive. CPSLO and SDSU in particular are more competitive for non-local transfers than they are for freshmen.
You have been admitted into several really good schools, Pick the one that works for you and then make the most of the path you have.
I’m a very big advocate for going to CCC–> UC, but not in this case.
For SDSU, UCLA, and Cal Poly SLO it’s tough to transfer into. Your chances of getting into UCLA as a transfer are slim–they have an overall transfer acceptance rate of 25%.
I don’t have data on SDSU or Slo, but that’s tough too. SDSU is super impacted and I’ve been seeing a lot of local transfers get denied. SLO denies people with 4.0s.
You’ve been accepted to so many great places. I’d really look into UCSB, UCR, UCI, and SJSU. Visit them if you can and see which you like best. I have a feeling that a year from now you’ll be thankful you went straight away.
@jocyxdelrey Hello! I think you’ve received some great advice from others. Hopefully you’ll be able to visit the campuses and find the school that’s the best fit for you. I’m not sure what major you were admitted to at UCSB, however it would be worthwhile to look into their Global Studies program/classes when you visit. Some really incredible professors!
Most of my friends loved the school they attended and wouldn’t change anything.

attending Jc is smart financially but you will miss out on the “freshman year” at a university where you have fun and grow up with potential life long friends. If the latter is not important, attend Jc first.

attending jc first does not gurantee you get into your dream school. You could hypothetically get into fewer schools you were admitted to now. Would u be ok w that?
