Should I apply to a university even if I don't meet their requirements? (Freshman)

I’d like to apply to Purdue for engineering, but I didn’t take Chemistry in high-school (a “required” class for engineering), and my grades in two rather important subjects are below the minimum for consideration. Should I try anyway, making my application the best that it can be, or will it lessen my chances of admission as a transfer student down the line? Also: do rejection letters usually include details about how to meet their requirements and apply again later? Thanks!

If it is required, it is required. Or they would call it “recommended” or “optional”.

It is not “required” it is required.

That’s true.

Agree with both of the above but also want to answer your question that a rejection now would not impact your reapplying as a transfer. You can apply but honestly you would wasting the application fee if you don’t meet the requirements.

Rejection letters do not give information about why an applicant was not accepted nor will the school provide any detailed reason.

^ With some exception. I have seen very personalize rejection letters.

Those are minimum requirements… most students who apply and are accepted exceed those requirements by quite a bit. Not meaning to discourage you but think you’ll find similar requirements for most engineering admissions.

Have you taken Physics? What math are you taking now? What do your SAT’s and GPA look like? With that info we might be able to suggest other engineering programs that could be a bitter fit

I would be inclined to call admissions at the university and ask these questions directly.
