Should I Apply to Prep schools for 11th Grade Admission?

<p>I’ve been debating whether or not to apply as a repeat junior at prep schools for 2 weeks, my parents helped me to identify some potential pros and cons and let me to decide whether apply or stay. So I want to list the pros and cons and any feedback will be appreciated.</p>

<p>Pros:

  1. Better academic environment overall, I ran out of some classes at my current school in my junior year.
  2. My school lacks of Model Union or Physics Olympiad training, so that I have to self-study in a very slow pace without guidance.(My teachers aren’t interested in doing those “extra” stuff)
  3. I want to go a place that fits me, where I can find people who share the same passion with me. At my current school, I haven’t find any one who shares my passion.
  4. One more year sport means better performance, I will continue my sport in at least D3 colleges.
  5. I love the idea of boarding school!</p>

<p>Cons:

  1. I will only have two years at the new school if I’m accepted and decide to go, is two years really worth it?
  2. I will lose all my leadership postitions in current school.
  3. My teachers are kinda of against me to leave.
  4. I will probably be one of the oldest kid in the class.
  5. I’m afraid the intensity of the junior year will limit my social activities at the new school.</p>

<p>I say go for it…what do you have to lose (except leadership position at current school…lol).</p>

<p>When you say your teachers are against you leaving, what do you mean? I kind of felt this way with my daughter’s current school…she goes to a small private Christian school and I feel like they still want my money because the school is losing enrollment, so I wasn’t sure if this was going to affect her recommendations. Do you think the teachers would give you good recs if you decide to apply?</p>

<p>The teachers will give me decent recs. Teachers want me to stay because I’m one of the best kid in some subjects.</p>

<p>I think you should do what’s best for you.</p>

<p>It sounds like (from what I’ve read) you’re current school doesn’t have the activities you want, nor the involvement from teachers that you’ll probably need.</p>

<p>2 years is def. worth it. Even if you’re the oldest kid in the grade, it’ll be okay. Maybe spend some time there, see if you like the kids, the classes, etc.</p>
