I am a rower who was talking to the lightweight coach about recruiting, but it seems like I will not be getting a slot. I have 1410 SAT, a 94.15 weighed GPA, and am taking 5 AP courses this year, and I highly doubt I would make it in on academics alone. However, if I am a legacy, have been rowing for 4 years, and submit art supplements, would I have a shot if I went early action? Or is it not even worth it?
Legacy will not make up for a weakness in your application; it will, however, help you stand out against equally stellar profiles. A 1410, as you know, is well below the 25th percentile in pton’s average class.
Agree, legacy status and arts supplements won’t make up for below standard academics. If you will always wonder “what if” then go ahead and give it your best shot. But be sure to have other schools that appear affordable (if that is an issue) and that you would be happy to attend lined up.
