I am transferring in the Fall of 2009. I go to a California Community college, and I want to pursue accounting as my major. I am also applying to UT-Austin, which has the number accounting program in the nation according to PAR, and USC as well. I am a Texas resident, btw.

Pros of applying to UCLA:

My Dream School!
Prestige
I love California more than Texas

Cons:

Cost
Competitiveness of applicant pool (If I’d apply as an Econ major, with an Accounting minor, my chance of getting accepted would be very minimal if not none. If I’d apply as a Math/Econ major, then I wouldn’t be able to satisfy the natural science and category five requirement of UT-Austin and USC, respectively, because I must take Calc 3 and Differential.)

So I really don’t know what to do. Here are my stats, btw:

GPA: 3.94, all courses are transferrable; B in Macro-Econ (my only B); A’s in Calc I and II; 2 W’s
In the Honors Program, but will not be able to finish it.
ECs: AGS, PTK, Business Club, 3 Volunteer Work, and that’s about it.

Of course you should apply. The time to make up your mind is when you have all your acceptances in front of you. You never know what might happen between now and next school year. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot by not applying. The only way to ensure you don’t get in is to not apply!

I 2nd that!! n what makes you think you’re not qualified? 3.94 gpa is really competitive!! i mean u have a solid GPA and some decent ECs… i even think Econ is possible for ya! good luck

Last year, 4.0s from de anza got rejected without TAP. Feel free to apply, but don’t get your hopes up. You might-- get in. If you had TAP and a 3.6, i’d say MATCH-you’re in. Hell, I have a friend who got in with a 3.3+TAP

The reason your TAP friends probably got accepted over your non-TAP friends is because the latter group likely didn’t finish all of the pre-reqs, or didn’t get up to 60 units, or didn’t finish the IGETC, or hell, all three. Your TAP friends, on the other hand, obviously did fulfill all three of these criteria… otherwise they wouldn’t have finished TAP.

I say if the OP finishes the pre-reqs, IGETC, and 60 units with a 3.9+ as a CCC student, s/he is just about in… pending the personal statement.

kfav9, I am confident that you will be a strong candidate but I also feel that threads like these are pointless and unnecessary. With stats like yours, all we can do is reassure your chances of being admitted, which doesn’t solve anything.

Being a non-Californian resident will hurt; I am sure you are already aware of this.

I think I’ll give Econ a shot. I mean I think my conscience will hunt me forever if I wouldn’t try to apply to UCLA. If they reject me, I’ll just deal with it!
