I am not happy with my college choice but I want to take full responsibility for it because I am the one who put myself there. I was not forced to enroll at the college. I don’t have weight issue but I starve myself whenever I am sad. When the teachers at the school ask me if I am ok, I always say yes and give them a nice smile or I lie about what’s bothering me. Do you think I should be honest with them and tell them that I am just not happy at the school? It scares me to do that because I am going to ask them for recommendation letter if I decide to go to another college. I think that they will not like to hear that their school does not satisfy my personal and academic needs. Will honesty be undiplomatic?

IMO you should talk to somebody at the school, but not your teachers.

first of all, don’t starve yourself, at least eat your favorite foods (ice cream, etc.)

second of all, talk to your parents, I would DEFINITELY suggest transferring colleges, (its quite common). Don’t settle for what something that isn’t making you happy, get a transfer to another, hopefully happier school.

You have two different issues:
- an eating disorder, for which you should seek immediate and confidential support through the student health/counseling center.
- a dissatisfaction with academic aspects of your school, for which you should see an academic advisor to see what can be done.
Many, many freshman are unhappy with aspects of college life in their first year. It is up to you to identify the specific issues and solve them. Is your course load too unbalanced? Are you taking classes you are interested in? Are you making friends?
Your teachers are not the right place for advice on either of these issues, unless you are having a specific challenge with their class.
