Should I bother applying to UCLA Nursing?

UCLA would be my first choice and I love the school, but they accept 40 people out of 1940 applications.

I have a 31 ACT,
4.3 gpa on a 4.0 scale,
I volunteer in the nursing dept at a hospital,
I have shadowed nurses,
I have a lot of extracurriculars especially in music and foreign languages
I think my essays are very strong and passionate.
I am from Massachusetts (if that helps?)
5 on AP calc BC exam
4 on AP english composition and language

what do you think? do you think I would get in?

I have no idea but you know that you will never have a chance of getting in if you don’t apply.

It is fine to apply to a couple of reach schools. Just create a balanced list which also has match and safety schools that you like and that appear affordable.

Can you afford the price?

Case Western Reserve has a really good direct admit nursing program…

how did you get the 40 out of 1940 application stat?

For 2016: There were 2278 Freshman applicants for Nursing and 50 were admitted giving it a 2.2% acceptance rate.

@Gumbymom Do you have one from UCI and SDSU as well?

@lastofthree:

For UCI: http://www.oir.uci.edu/files/adm/IA19-fall-fr-select-yield-by-major.pdf?R=790485

For SDSU: http://nursing.sdsu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Freshman-Admission-Statistics-1.pdf

Thank you!

I know that you need to maintain at least a 3.0 gpa to maintain your status in the nursing program at CSUF, but does anyone know about SDSU, UCI, and UCLA nursing programs? What is the minimum gpa?

For SDSU:
Prerequisite courses are required for nursing majors before students
may begin taking clinical nursing courses.
a. Course grade requirement (B- or better) in each of these required
courses: Biology 211, 211L, 212, and 261 (Note: The grades
for Biology 211 and 211L must average B-. Students may
not proceed if they receive a C- in either Biology 211 or 211L
regardless of the average of the two. Registration in Biology 261
may be concurrent with the start of School of Nursing courses for
direct entry students only).

Also found this for SDSU:

Freshman admitted to the BSN program are not coded as Nursing majors until they successfully complete BIOL 211/211L, BIOL 212, BIOL 261, CHEM 102, Statistics 250, COMM 103, RWS 100, and RWS 200 with the minimum required grades (B- or above for all Biology courses, C or above for all others)

@Gumbymom Thank you!

@lastofthree I am a current UCLA nursing student and we are required to complete all of our pre-requisites with a C- or higher with the exception of Nursing Courses (N10,N13 etc…), Biostats, and English 3 which require a C. We essentially need a 2.0 GPA or better to stay in the program and graduate on time.

@biobabe101 Can you please tell me what your stats were when you applied to UCLA nursing program? Thank you!

@lastofthree I had a 4.25 UC GPA All A’s and 2 B’s 10th-12th grade), 1730 SAT, and 25 ACT. However, despite my low test scores I was very involved in EC’s and with volunteering.

Thank you!

I am also a current UCLA nursing student, please let me know if you have any questions

@kgiesch What were your stats GPA/test scores?
