Should I bother with FAFSA? Possible Transfer student after withdrawal

Ds had a generous need and merit based scholarship, but he has withdrawn from school after a medical leave. I doubt he will go back to any college this fall, but he might next spring. Should I bother with the FAFSA? We make too much money for Pell grant, but he was eligible for loans and work study and school grants. But transfer students seldom get much, and while he has a great GPA, and withdrew from a prestigious school, I think he will go to a state school if and when he returns…

And what would I put for college on the FAFSA? He has no plans for that now.

Thanks.

Wait until you know where he is applying. Then submit the FAFSA to those schools. You just never know. And by completing the FAFSA, he will be able to take the Direct Loan.

You have to submit the FAFSA the college to which he is applying. You don’t just complete a random FAFSA with no specific college(s).
