Should I bother?

I’m at freshman at UF with more or less a full ride. I want to stay through my sophomore year (maybe study abroad?), then transfer.

What might my chances be at NYU/Berkeley/maybe Columbia? If I have a shot, how could I strengthen my application/increase my chances of being accepted?

Transfer Term: Fall ‘08

Current School: University of Florida

GPA: 3.928 with rigorous schedule

SAT: 730R/550M /720W

SAT II: N/A

AP: 5’s on Spanish Literature (I’m not Hispanic) and Psychology, 4’s on European History, English Literature, English Language, and Spanish Language, 3 on US History

HS GPA: 3.5 GPA, 4.1 HPA at competitive arts school

ECs: Honors Program, Student Honors Organization, Minority Ambassadors, teach English to international students

Reason: I never applied anywhere I wanted to go. I’ve given UF seven months and I’m still…dissatisfied.

UF Full ride > NYU/Berkeley/Columbia

I agree with LAX attack. UF is a good school especially if its free!

UF Full Ride < Columbia

but I agree with the rest. It’s not worth it to transfer from UF to NYU or Berk and pay a lot, but Columbia is a different story.

But do I stand a chance?

that math score is very bad. Other than that, I’d say you do. It depends on what they’ll overlook, but it is Columbia, so I imagine that red flag will do you in.

Columbia is an extremely difficult school to transfer into, as are all the ivies.

I think he has a good shot, if what everyone else says is true that HS record matters far less when he applies for junior standing.

I’m pretty sure you’re set for Berkeley.
