Should I chose individual review/will I get in?

Hi guys!

So I am OOS (Michigan) and I have a high school gpa of 3.474 weighted (3.13 uw) and an ACT score of 32. I’ve taken Honors/AP every year and have an estimated RAI score of about 265-270 (I’m not positive yet). Do you think I need to do the individual review process for Iowa?

Also, if you have been accepted, how long does it take for them to make a decision typically?

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

In terms of Iowa turnaround time on applications, in the past it has been pretty fast – I believe typically 4-8 weeks. It is in your best interest to apply early so you can get your housing application in as soon as possible.

Regarding whether to ask for an individual review, one can never be sure. My opinion only (no guarantees!) – with an ROI of 265, my opinion is that you should be ok with the regular review process, even for a more competitive major like Engineering, assuming everything else in your application is ok.

If you have reason to be concerned about your application, I would call or email the admissions office to ask for advice - I have found them to be very responsive and supportive.

Thank you! I will probably choose individual review because it only adds an essay. I have an essay already written about my academic struggles, so just to be sure…

The Iowa individual review process used to also include submitting letters of recommendation, but that may have changed – be sure to read the instructions carefully, and check with the admissions office on anything you are unsure of.

Please let us know if you have any more questions, and good luck!

I got in with 3.35 Uw and 25 on the act

I don’t think you’ll need to request individual review at all, your ACT score is superb and GPA is within acceptable range. I was at 28 ACT score and slightly better GPA and got in after 3 weeks of my application.

Tori, what’s your class rank? I would think that with your ACT and GPA your RAI score would be higher than that.

If you have taken the number of core subjects required by Iowa I would be shocked if you didn’t get accepted. In fact, with your scores you should qualify for a scholarship.

I don’t think it’s necessary to request an individual review. If Iowa is one of your top choices apply now so you can get your housing request in ASAP.

Best of luck!

My class rank is 87 of 262. That’s great news!
