Should I completly rethink my college plan?

I’ve always wanted to be a film maker and I’ve always wanted to write books. Today, my dad was talking to his friend who is a lawyer. He told me that I really should not go to college for either of those options because you don’t need a degree to write a book.
This might sound a little rude to some people, but I have always wanted a nice lifestyle. It’s something I’ve never had. I want to wake up one morning and say, “Hey, let’s take a vacation!” I know that being a filmmaker or an author is kind of a make or break deal. So I rethought my plan.
Something that I’ve also really wanted to do is to become a Psychiatrist. It’s something I am extremely passionate about as well, however, I didn’t know if it was what I REALLY wanted. I do know that they can make pretty good money. This is what I was thinking: I will go to school and try to become an M.D. In the process of college, I will also try to write a book. Win, win? Or no?
I could really use some advice. My fathers friend left town, and no one is really there to tell me smart career options.
I don’t know if this matters or not, but I haven’t made below a 93% in high school. I’m a Junior.

I’m not sure if I put this in the right section. I just started using CC a few days ago!
