Okay guys this is going to sound really bad but I applied to Stanford and never expected to get in so I never sent my CSS profile because I was like “wow why pay $$$ for a school I won’t get into” + all my app fees were waived (but had like 10+ schools on CSS LOL). So now I have no award letter but Stanford is need blind and I’m REALLy low income so…can I just accept? Is that a thing people do? How screwed am I?
I already sent everything in the minute I found out I got in
Need blind is an admissions term, it has nothing to do with financial aid. If you have not submitted any financial aid paperwork, right now the school believes that you will be full pay. You need to contact them first thing in the morning to find out:
If you can still get financial aid this fall
who do you need to send your paperwork to.
You should not commit without a financial aid package, because you do not know if you are going to receive aid. Wait until you have an aid letter in hand.
You should contact Stanford and find out…if you missed deadlines you may be out of luck.
IF that happens, ask them to defer for a year and you can go the next year and MEET those DEADLINES!!!
$16…you couldn’t have babysat or something to get that $16 to submit this Profile on time.
As noted…call Stanford. The school needs to know you are applying for financial aid. When you applied…you didn’t…so that’s why you didn’t receive any.
Hoping you at least sent them your FAFSA…if not…get that done too.
They will tell you any implications of a missed deadline submission.
And NO…I would not suggest you accept their admission offer until you know whether this school will be affordable.
This is the second time in a few days that we’ve heard from a student who very likely qualifies for need-based aid, but chose not to complete the need-based application process because sending the Profile form to each school costs an additional $16. These students were accepted to schools that didn’t get Profile, need-based aid is required in order to attend, and now they’re in a bad spot.
For future applicants (and their parents) who contemplate doing the same thing, don’t take such a huge gamble in order to save $16. It is so not worth it.
I got into Columbia and Princeton which specified that there is no penalty for late finaid applicants and so I’m crossing fingers LOL go trees
Did you get aid packages for Columbia and Princeton? Are they affordable?
@floraha the point is…you now don’t have a financial aid award for a great school…and you don’t know if it’s affordable. So what if there is no penalty for being late? Fact it…you don’t have your financial aid award…so you have NO idea if Stanford, or any other place you didn’t submit to, is n affordable option for you.
Yes, the cost for the CSS profile, in many instances, is less than one college application. Another tip for parents and students is to be aware of FA deadlines.
Princeton gave me an estimate and I’m getting a full ride as long as i send docs oh god I’m an imbecile when it comes to these things
forgot to tag @thumper1
estimated parental contribution for below $65k is zero so uhhhuihdiu also i emailed Stanford like twice and realized its easter gr8 + and i emailed harvard and oberlin and they told me i can send the css after I’m accepted so my butt thought it was the same other schools ohmygod I’m sooo screwed
okay the lesson is take precautions even though you think you dont stand a chance because fate has other plans kids!!!
I seriously doubt you are an imbecile…just poorly advised on this. See what they say tomorrow and let us know.
I know I’m going to sound entitled because i got into all these great schools but i really really want to go to stanford and this is really killing my mojo flow so I’m willing to pay a lil more out of pocket and work hella hard + will update as this develops
@floraha Just keep breathing. Call them tomorrow.
Flora, see below. Looks like you will be ok, so breathe. Call tomorrow and don’t delay again. (BTW: Less imbecile than knucklehead! But you are a teenager so you are allowed a few knucklehead moves;)

@HRSMom Yikes that says the CSS is no longer available.
So you sent the Profile…where? Did you submit it anywhere when you applied. If you are that low income…you qualified for some waivers probably.
And the FAFSA?
