Should I discuss my impending organ donation?

My mother suffers from endstage kidney disease and requires a new kidney to live the highest quality of life possible. My older siblings all have health issues due to poor life choices and cannot donate, so it falls to me to help my mother when i turn 18.
I want to write about how my mom encouraged me to pursue my dreams of being a scientist, and how after she got sick i became extremely interested in bioengineering, especially artificial organ construction, and how going through the preparation of kidney donation has solidified my goals to help create safer, healthier ways to treat kidney disease. This is for the central story common app prompt.
Is this too touchy a topic or not appropriate for a college essay?

Personally, I think it is a very interesting topic. I went on to a particular graduate school, based on an interest developed because of what happened to an ill sibling, and I wrote about that. It’s what I was passionate about at the time.

Are you a match? Do you know yet? I was not a match.

I just joined CC and I’m not familiar with the lingo, what do you mean by “match”?

Wow. That’s a stand out topic. Go for it.

Oh you were talking about the kidneys XD sorry. Yeah I’m a match, our blood types are compatible and our antigens are very similar.

Absolutely!

That’s an amazing topic!

That’s a great topic and a noble future occupation. Your decisions are deeply personal. Is there any possibility that your mother’s kidney disease is genetic? Will you someday need a transplant? Good luck to you.

There isn’t any evidence that it is genetic, as none of her family has kidney disease and no one on my father’s side has it either. Her doctors believe it is due to a stressful life and age.
