Should I ditch my alma mater?

So I just completed my first year at Boston College. It was pretty good - nothing to complain about. BC’s resources are great and I really feel like I’m valued there, plus the campus life is really good and it’s a beautiful campus.

HOWEVER something recently came in the mail that may change everything…Last year when I was deciding where to go I was choosing between a couple places, one of them being Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. I ended up choosing BC and not TCD because I was kinda scared at how far away and different it was (also I’m from CA). At the last minute, I sent Trinity a letter respectfully requesting to defer my admission for one year. Last month, my re-admission acceptance came out of the blue. I had almost forgotten! Now I am faced with the choice again, only after a year of college. Should I go to Trinity (probably as a freshman unless some of my BC credits can transfer), or stay at BC (a school more that two times as expensive as TCD’s 12,000 euro tuition)?

I’d stay at BC. You’ve had a good first year and I think making that big a change (and maybe loosing a year) may be a bit too much. That’s just me though.

Also, are you allowed to delay admission for a year and enroll somewhere else? That sounds very iffy

I’d say stay.

For starters, I would definitely find out exactly how many courses/credits would transfer over and what your standing would be. If you decided to go to BC and liked it there, then why should your decision be any different this time around? Maybe, you could study abroad there your junior year as a compromise to your decision.

Could you study abroad at Trinity your junior year if you like it that much?

and technically, it doesnt become your ‘alma mater’ until youve received the diploma

Have you visited Trinity? Very different scene from BC. Also, what are you studying? Trinity expects you to be highly specialized from the get-go (but you probably know that since you applied.) I would definitely hop over there if you haven’t yet visited. Very cool, but know what you are getting into.

Trinity is a lovely university… and i personally think dublin is great!

What are your plans after you finish college? would a international degree help your plans more? Will the money you save be helpful? maybe try that pro con list.

BC does exchange with trinity, as someone mentioned above that could always be an option so you still get to experience both.
