So I am about to start tutoring with a local company that has gotten many very good reviews. The first thing he told me though was that he thinks I should change my may SAT to math 2 and physics subject tests an take the June sat. He said we would tutor for those subject tests after I take a practice test this weekend. He said it would also prepare me for the ap physics test because they are similar tests. If I changed my may sat we would have time to study for both the subject tests and the sat 1

Do you guys think this a smart plan? To change my may sat to a subject test and just take the June sat?

So you’ll have at most three weeks to “prepare” for the May SAT 2s. I expect you’ll be doing this concurrently with studying for the Physics AP and for final exams.

The SAT is the most important test for college admissions, and even if you keep the May date for this test 2-3 weeks of tutoring isn’t likely to be a big help. At best the tutoring will help you with test taking strategy – as for example how to manage your time, how to guess effectively, etc. It’s not much time to help you identify and address knowledge gaps.

We don’t have enough information regarding your previous SAT testing experience and your score goals. This said I would think focusing only on the SAT is your best approach, and since you’ll have a tutor I would recommend that you take advantage of his availability and push the SAT date to June without introducing the complexity of SAT 2 tests in May.

If you’re planning on using a tutor I recommend that you move the date up to June, and take the SAT then. At worse you’ll lose the registration fee for the May exam.
