Should I drop APHG?

Hey CC,

I’m genuinely NOT INTERESTED in the class right now, I am so bored with the class, I have a 15 day (9 days left) period to drop into an K level (accelerated).

I took the class originally because I thought more AP classes will stand out to colleges but I am dead bored in the class, the assignments are boring so far, its just grind-work.

APHG is the ONLY AP class offered Freshman year, and I’ve been looking at other CC posts about rigorous scheduling and how colleges notice that… and since APHG is the only AP class, it would make my Freshman year “rigorous” (I’m still new to this logic, forgive me).

So I’m thinking about dropping it, saving a possible 75$(or so) from the AP exam, since APHG credit isnt offered in colleges anyways.

Really need help soon :frowning:

Don’t drop it! It will get interesting later on. I was in your exact position 3 years ago (although dropping didn’t ever cross my mind). You’re only a freshman, so it’ll take time to adjust to high school courses. This is normal, and you don’t want to be going around dropping classes that easily :P… Also, if APHG is already boring, how boring do you think “K-level” will be? Exactly.

I guess it could be an opportunity to get used to the AP workload…

I agree with above. If you are bored now, chances are you are going to be even more bored in a lower level class. I understand the feeling as I’m having the same problem in AP World. I just have to keep reminding myself that taking that class now means I can study more of what I want in college later.

What helped me fight off boredom in that class was to connect the topics we were learning to current or historical events. I love to read news articles, so the class suddenly became easier and more interesting. Some of the vocabulary in APHUG is very helpful when you’re trying to understand an unfamiliar topic in an article.

Colleges will not look at your freshman courseload in a vacuum; they will look at your actual freshman through junior + anticipated senior schedule as an aggregate. Within reason, one should not make course selections based upon what some anonymous college admissions officer will think.

Keep in mind that many private colleges do not give credit for APHG or APWH, so for those colleges, it won’t mean studying more of what you want later.

I loved APHG. It gets more and more interesting as the year progresses.
