I asked my counselor and she was like I need to ask Rutgers Admissions. I called RU admissions and they said to email the RU Admissions, but I should be able to drop it.

I GOT INTO RU BUSINESS, ARTS AND ENGINEERING ALL AT NB

I AM SCARED I AM GOING TO FAIL BEST I CAN PROBABLY GET IS A D!!!

My Email:

To whom this may concern,
I am XXXXXXX. (RUID: XXXXXXXX) I am a HS Senior and a few weeks ago I was very happy to be accepted into the Rutgers School of Business. In High School I have completed Geometry Honors, Pre-Calculus, Calculus Honors, and have taken Algebra II over my freshman year summer for credit. This year in addition to those 3 mathematics courses I am taking AP Statistics and AP Calculus BC. Calculus BC is in eqivalence to Calculus I + Calculus II in college. I will be taking the AP Test this May to acquire college credit which i may or may not use. We have started the Calc II portion of Calculus BC and I find it very difficult and I am worried I might fail the course. I am considering dropping the course and replacing it with an online course in AP Microeconomics or AP Microeconomics which I can work on for the remainder of the school year.

Will dropping Calculus BC revoke my acceptance into the Rutgers School of Business?

Response:

Dear XXXXX,

The strength of your senior course selections is one of the many factors that was considered when you were admitted to Rutgers. While it appears that you would still have the minimum 16 academic courses required for admission, please remember that admission to Rutgers University is competitive. If you drop a course, you may weaken the strength of your academic program.

You must decide, with knowledge of the above, if it is in your best interest to drop an academic course. If you do make a change to your schedule, please inform us so that we can include this information in your file. Please note that it is not the policy of this office to grant permission to students to drop high school courses in progress that were a part of our original admission review.

THEY WANT ME TO DECIDE!!! WHAT DO I DO???

Remain in the course and take a D? I think you will have to take calculus when you come to college so perhaps it’s best to just stick with it now.

Also, I’m sure you can redeem yourself by July. How does the academic calender work at your school (marking periods)? Are they separated into quarters? I’m sure if you are getting a “D” now, you can just work harder for the second half of the school year to bring the average at the end of the year up to at least a C or B. Ask your teacher for extra help, go for tutoring – that kind of stuff.

Since this is your senior year u need to suck it up! And pass that course.

STAY IN SCHOOL. peace.

calc 2 is mad hard in college, and friends of mine currently taking it at rutgers tell me it is very difficult. taking it at high school is typically a good idea, even if it very challenging. good luck and congratulations on admission.

If you want to do business, you probably won’t need to take Calc 2 at all. It doesn’t seem to be in the business school curriculum: [Rutgers Business School : Major Requirements](http://business.rutgers.edu/default.aspx?id=262).

However, if you want to do engineering, you will most definitely be taking Calc 2 plus more advanced math classes.

This is unrelated to how this will affect your admission decision (that is something we CCers cannot know for sure), but it is something to note.

I think it’s better to substitute it out rather than take a D or worse, an F.

Does your school have AB Calc? If yes I would try to transfer into it rather than drop Calc altogether. I think it’ll be a lot easier for you. For the Business School you need one semester of Calc which AB is. BC is overkill anyway.
