<p>I’m applying to a BUNCH (20) of highly competitive schools (almost all are top 30), and I have participated in a bunch of different activities since I submitted my commonapp. I already plan on providing “updates” to schools I got deferred from, but should I also email the other schools that I’m applying to RD?</p>

<p>In my opinion, that is a bad idea. Imagine how busy the admissions office would be if all of the applicants did that.</p>

<p>First of all, there is no need to bump something after less than 5 hours. Second, 20 schools, none of which are matches or safeties? That seems a tad bit excessive. You’d be hard pressed to find 20 schools in the top 30 that one single student would like in terms of social life, campus, etc. Lastly, you don;t need to update them on your activities, because frankly, they don’t care what you’ve done recently. They care what stuff you’ve been involved in loyally for a while, and that you’ve shown leadership in, so something more recent won’t really matter much.</p>

<p>None of the top 30 colleges are matches, much less safeties, unless you reside in state for one of the public top colleges. The lowest on the top 30 list is UNC, widely considered one of the best public schools. So, I say none of them are matches or safeties, because you said they are top 30.</p>
<p>If there are just new awards/achievements for things you’ve already done, then to be honest, the awards won’t matter much. You’ve already shown dedication, leadership, etc.</p>

<p>so you’re implying that it’s impossible for a school like Michigan or UNC to be anything but a reach for any applicant- even someone with a 4.0 GPA, 2400 SAT, and found the cure for cancer. I got accepted to Michigan OOS and my scores/stats pretty much match up with the average freshman profile- note the word match. second of all I said most not all are in the top 30- I applied to UM and just got accepted and I’m hearing from UF soon.</p>

<p>You’ve already gotten answers, but you can keep on bumping and then stop when you get an answer you want, I guess. </p>
<p>As to my response: if it’s some type of impressive national award, yes. But if it’s a district/city/local award that are in much the same vein as previous awards listed on your app, don’t bother.</p>
<p>UF is not a top 30 university, regardless of what UF you’re talking about (I’m assuming Florida). There is no University of F________ in the top 30. </p>
<p>Do you realize how many people who’s stats are average don’t get accepted? A lot. The top 30 are not matches or safeties for anyone other than in-state students. Maybe some of the 30-ish ones are low reaches, but they’re still extremely hard to get into.</p>
<p>Stop trying to act like you’re good enough for the top 30 not to be reaches. Unless you did cure cancer (And I think everyone would know if someone did), or some other equally insanely amazing EC, they are never matches. 2400 and 4.0 students get rejected all of the time.</p>

<p>2400 SAT, 4.3 GPA, internationally ranked #1 in a science olympiad, TOC level debate champion, conducted nuclear fusion research with NASA. got rejected from UVA in the early round. That happened a few months after I got accepted to a top 15 school early. I am in state. Just goes to show you that no school in the top 30 is truly a safety.</p>
