Should I even apply to UCLA?

My chances seem pretty darn low but I was thinking maybe I should just apply–just in case…Should I not even bother??

I am for sure applying to:
Humboldt
Cal Poly SLO
Cal Poly Pomona
UC Davis
UC Irvine

and probably UC San Diego.

What about these schools?

GPA: 4.26 (Weighted). 3.826 (Non-Weighted).

SAT: 1970.
Critical Reading–740
Math–560
Writing–670

Subject Tests:
Literature–620
US History–720

AP Tests:
Euro History–4
US History–4
Biology–Planned
MicroEconomics–Planned
MacroEconomics–Planned
Literature–Planned

Extra Curriculars:
Grade 9: Cross Country & Track & Field
Grade 10: Cross Country. I developed severe Fibromyalgia and Scoliosis and I can’t run anymore…I had to quite both cross country and track.
Grade 11: Yearbook 1, Drama I. Founder/Vice President of Operation Smile Club (We raised over 500 dollars for kids with cleft lips)
Grade 12: Yearbook 4, Script/Cinema Production (Advanced Film Class [Drama 4])

It’ll be tough. Especially because of your math score. But, if you really want it, why not apply?

Yes…

True, application fees are expensive and I wasn’t sure if I was being a bit too hopeful.

mychances said I had a 50 percent chance.

ELC students have a 60% chance of getting into UCLA. Are you ELC?

Definitely apply to UCLA. In my opinion, you have a moderate chance of getting in. What is your UC gpa? What is your class rank? A good personal statement can only help your chances. good luck :)

No. I’m only top 7%.
University of California sent me a letter that said I get guaranteed admission to one campus but they could not guarantee which one, but it wasn’t the ELC letter. I didn’t make the cut. So I’m not sure what my letter is.

My class rank is 50/793.

6.3%

The guaranteed campus is UC Merced this year, perhaps also UC Riverside (?). So, what is the 50% based on? If that is correct, 50% is great. Not many people can say they have a 50% chance of getting into UCLA :)

I would also encourage you to apply and also suggest that you apply to UCSB and UCSC.

The 50% is from my chances . net which uses your SAT scores, etc to predict your chances based on a simulation of 65536 admission cycles…I don’t know how accurate it is but it says mine are

Cal Poly Slo 81.4%
Cal Poly Pomona 90%
Humboldt 99%
Davis 92.1%
Irvine 95.7%
San Diego 75.9%

and then UCLA…49.5%

An example from last year…Check this out.

Apply to more reach schools if UCLA’s 50%. Have you considered UC Berkeley? Anyways, the only you would lose is the application fee and that’s trivial if you actually do get into UCLA. I’m pretty sure the UCs don’t put as much weight onto SAT scores as they do onto GPA, so I wouldn’t worry about the SAT score too much, but your math is a bit problematic. Have you considered retaking the SAT?

I think you have around a 75% chance of getting in. I know people who had your stats and got in, and some who didn’t. Most did though. I had around a 3.6 UW and a 2140 W and I got in, but I applied two years ago so I’m not sure if it’s more strict now since the pool of applicants now is probably much larger.

Definitely worth a try.

Apply to berkeley, they tend to weigh gpa more than test scores. They also rely on the personal statement a lot.
