not great, but i can still hope at least…

anyone think i can get in?

i think you should still apply
-your grades aren’t that great but i think your ECs will make up for it

You certainly should apply. While the Columbus campus is getting more selective, the worst case is you would be admitted to one of the branch campuses and could then transfer to Columbus as a sophomore. I know a number of kids who are doing that. You’ll never know until you try.

Good luck!

Yeah, the class rank is key. At last count, I heard that around 90% of the incoming freshmen this year are in the top 20% of their high school class…

But I’m sure your improvement would be viewed positively.

Why are you concerned about OSU if top schools have been contacting you about crew. The schools you’ve mentioned have better crew teams than OSU and have much higher academic standards. OSU might accept you, especially if you’ve been in contact with their crew coach. However, what does it really matter? If they reject you, you’ll just have to go to an ivy.

You wont find the same school-spirit and football at Ivy Leagues. Sometimes the Ivy league cant replace the national football, parties, 100000 fans and community of OSU. College isnt all about presitge and academics so I believe OSU will give a better college experience. OSU is a great school so that why he is concern with it.

What is crew? I dont have that at my school

Rowing basically.

www.osucrew.com

UcMichigan, I completly respect people who choose OSU or other schools of that ilk over Ivy league schools. I have friends who turned down top schools because they think OSU will provide them with a better experience. I’m just saying that the OP shouldn’t worry about OSU because there is little he can do now to improve his chances, and he has good alternatives to fall back on if things don’t work out. Also, the football isn’t exclusive to people attending OSU. I won’t be going to OSU, but that won’t stop me from watching every game and hating evey michigan fan I meet.

Contact the crew coach. I rowed (well actually, coxswained) during high school as well, and if you are that good you should probably get accepted. I know St. Ignatius is a tough school and their crew team is even better.

In answer to the actual question, definitely apply.
