*ALSO: I am type 1 diabetic and have mental health problems; will this help at all?

P.S. I have really good recommendations and essay

Are you seriously going to try and use your ailments to help you get in? I have heart problems and a mental illness and I didn’t once mention that on my application except to explain my missing grades freshman year because I was hospitalized. If you feel your illnesses define you, then include them. I feel as though I am more than the things in life I can’t control, so I did not.

How would being a diabetic with mental health problems “help at all”? Unless they are the subject of your college essays, these conditions are absolutely irrelevant to any kind of admissions decision. Columbia has no quotas for either diabetics or applicants with mental health problems.

Columbia has a strict no-diabetics policy. Sorry.
