Other info:
-First generation to attend college
-Writer for a asian american news site
-Not sure if this counts as a difficult situation type of thing but my parents don’t speak English so I translated a lot for them (going w/ my dad to his business stuff, helping them get stuff done) and so i usually do the bills and things like that for my family
-Been to China to study Chinese ( 2 summers, alone - stayed with family that i had back there)
-I speak Fujianese fluently (my families dialect) , but not Mandarin fluently
-Most of the kids at my school go to local colleges, only a few stand outs a year get into out of state big schools

I’m also a prospective NYU peep (1st choice, yo), so I really can’t give you sound advice since I’m in the same boat… But I’d apply!! Sometimes, isn’t it good to get advice from someone the same as you…? I think so.

Your grades seem very good, but I’d branch out my ecs if I were you. None of them are outside of school! Despite the large number of clubs you’re in, it seems pretty meaningless if you don’t do something significant or noteworthy while in them. Do something that shows NYU your initiative to follow your non-school-related interests! I’d say the news site writing counts as an ec, as well.

Also, your volunteer work is a little limited. 2/3 are seasonal, and I’m not sure how often your blood drives happen so I can’t say anything about that one.

All the best of luck!

P.S. Fujianese? Ni chon na li lai de? Wo yie hue jian guo yi!! (Obv. my pinyin is so wrong, if you speak it aloud it might make more sense…)

yes you should apply. btw i got like a 140 something on the psats and my SAT scores in the end was 1950, but your ACT score is pretty solid but anyways i digress, yes you should apply.

p.s. i got in steinhardt

I say if you get a higher ACT score, like 33+, you should apply to Wharton =P. That being said, I think you have a pretty good shot ED.

No reason not to. I vaguely remember Stern liking at least 1 SATII but I could be thinking of another school, it’s been a while.

I was thinking of applying to stern for their BPE program is that better then the core business program they have there? It says that they only offer international business as a co-major but they describe BPE as a program for global minded students.

If I can get my ACT to like 31 or 32 would that be good enough if my gpa also stays around if not 4.0

I’m a little overwhelmed with the whole application process.

I was going to do the ED application online. How long before should I ask for my recommendations and how many is a good amount?

Then fill out the ED financial aid form, and the ED agreement papers which is a physical paper form?

Then inform my counselors to send in my transcripts, ap test scores, do the counselor recommendation, etc
Do my counselors handle the sending of the recommendations?

I know nyu’s aid is horrible but how much would I get if my parents make around 40,000 a year combined. 3 kids in my family 2 are over 18 only my brother is still a dependent., my parents own their own business. I read the placement for stern students is around 95% or something with a salary of 60,000 (on one website i read it was 80,000 some thousand for the recent classes) I’m hoping if going there gets me a good chance at a job right out of college it would be worth the loans.
Especially if i can find a company that helps loan payment or public service like peace corps, etc if it gets really bad.

ms.mussolini: my families from a small island off of China, it considered apart of the Fujian province.
