Hey guys, I’m interested in Michigan for Computer Engineering/Science due to its high ranking of their CS/CE programs.

I live in Florida and want to apply for EA but I don’t know whether or not I would be wasting my time and money. Even if I WERE to get accepted, I wouldn’t know if I should attend because OOS is so much more money than just IS at UF.

So basically should I try applying?

3.95 UW GPA
4.9 W HS GPA…not sure about recalculated.
8 AP classes
5 DE classes
Just took October SATs…should be 2000-2100.
Rank 31 of 763.
Hispanic.
Low-income.
Not really great ECs…but I am president of the Math club and also have a position in the French Club.
Don’t know if I’m missing anything else?

Thanks!

hey. You could apply but i doubt you would get much money- if any. I say that because you are out of state. I’m in your position to, and id think it’s even worth it for us to apply because I don’t have much money to put towards college. you can always give it a shot though

While Michigan is a GREAT school, I wouldn’t pay OOS tuition if you can attend UF at IS rates. If money wasn’t a consideration then I would certainly recommend applying to UM.

You truly won’t know unless you try. If you want solid financial aid, apply as early as possible – eg. before Nov. 1. Two years ago they made first offers of scholarships by xmas. If you don’t apply, you will never know.
Just don’t fall in love with “Michigan or Bust” and don’t rule out a financial safety such as UF.
