15. University of Southern California

…which one’s should i not bother applying to? … honestly…

You have great ECs, but the main thing that is hurting you is your SAT score. Realistically, I don’t see you getting into Stanford, JHU, Cornell, Duke, U Penn, Brown, Harvard, or Princeton.

do u think i shouldnt waste my type applying to unis like them?

I’d say that instead of not applying to any of those harder ones, just pick 2 or 3 that you love the most and apply just to those 2 or 3 out of the 7 or so sak mentioned.

yes…you have to remember that you will never get into those unis, if you don’t apply! you never know what can happen…

It would be a waste of time filling out all of the ones that are definite reaches, but just fill out the ones you love the most…and maybe the college adcoms will see how much you love the uni.

I think U Penn and Cornell are possible… if you write really good esssays

i think USC and U Michigan are possible.

and i agree with lynn4eva’s post…

Michigan, USC and BU are the only schools you have any chance at.

i wouldn’t apply to any of the ivies unless you can retake sats.

The only university that would not be a reach in the magnitude of the distance between the earth and the sun is Boston University.

The mentality of “you will never get into those unis, if you don’t apply” is too out of place in your case.

Your SAT I scores are not even in the bottom 25th percentile for all of these universities except Boston University. Although this test does not necessarily show your potential to do well in college, it is part of college admissions, however much you disagree with its use.

Your SAT II scores do not break 700. These tests show the knowledge you have acquired through your classes. Is your high school not that rigorous? I do not buy the excuse that a person is a “bad standardized test taker”. Your school tests are also timed and ‘standardized’: each person gets a limited amount of time to complete the test. You could be one of those students who scribbles in a few more answers right after the teacher calls, “time is up” or stands right beside you, waiting to collect your test; this is speculation on my part. You can not do that on the SAT I and II.

If you really want to apply to those schools, I would pick at most 4 (not counting Boston University) and not the most competitive ones

hmm, thanks for the help u guys… i think ill just bail …

I have same problem like you, i haven’t decided yet whether i apply for them all or not

$15K a month? That’s $180K a year… O_O;

yes, thats 180K a year  … after living in this country for almost 18 years, i gained the knowlege to know what would work here and what wouldnt. i now have a stable income of 15000$ a month :)

Hi. i was wondering what you guys thought my chances were of getting into Penn. I’m an African American student that lives in West Philadelphia. I go to the 53rd ranked public school in the country (Masterman). I have a 3.85 GPA. 1980 SAT Score (630M, 680V, 670W). I received a 670 on the SATII BIOM and a 570 on the Physics SATII. I also had a 4.0 GPA at a Dual Enrollment BIology Course at Community College of Philadelphia. I have all honors/AP’s (AP Calc BC,AP Phisics: C, Honors Social science:Government/Economics,Honors English, Honors African American History, and Honors Biology) I have alot of extra-curriculars, community service, etc. Strong recommendations and really good essays. I was also accepted into a science internship at Thomas Jefferson University. I will be researchin viral genetics and embryology. I’m trying to get into the College of Arts and Sciences. i want to major in biology (with a concentration in pre-med) Do you think I can get in?

@Zaid: If so, you already make much more than college graduates make. I think you don’t need to apply to any college.

So you deal drugs and make $15K a month? Nice. I thought the kids at my school were good making 25-30K a year dealing, but $150K? You must be something…

as a matter of fact, no i dont deal drugs bo5ton. i take that offensive as well so please refrain from saying such idiotic comments. i started a delivery service buisness and thats how i make 15000$ a month. castel, this is something i started thinking it was a joke… college is college, this is just a fun project that became a success

i think that’s really cool if you can make that much in a month. What delivery service is it?

well, basically… we deliver anything legal. i started this about 2 years ago as a joke between my father and i. he said if i could make a proper buisness and raise money then i could travel to the states. so he gave me 5000$ and i began thinking and so basically, i bought 3 medium sized vans and had drivers in them. i also hired drivers and i i suscribed to a personal cell phone line. people call up and say what they want, whether it would be groceries to a camel, we would deliver it. we do the shopping and etc and charge a commisiion fee. and so, it started doing really good. gas here is cheap so really, my only expenses were trhe drivers salaries, and the salaries here come cheap as well. and it began spreading and now we have 17 vans. im thinking of getting a webiste started now so yeah…its getting there. kuwait is small so word of my business spread by mouth… and yeah…thats how i made use of my 5000$ … and i repayed my dad back haha.

I highly, highly doubt you make 150K doing that…
