so the requirement states family income of 100K or less. if my parents make 140K a year, do I even get any financial aid?
The income cap on the NYS Excelsior Grant is $125k. It may be $100k this year, but the maximum will be $125k when it’s fully phased in. If your family’s income is over that then you won’t be eligible for it.
You’re eligible for financial aid, just not the Excelsior Scholarship.
It’s based on the Adjusted Gross Income, which is generally less than the gross.
For the 2019 - 2020 school year, it is based on2017 income.
When I was doing my end of year planning last year, I took some steps to try to qualify for Excelsior for 2019 - 2020. I think I succeeded, but I won’t know until I fill out the application. I did fill out FAFSA for next year and was invited to accepted unsubsidized loans. I declined. I would have accepted subsidized, but not unsub.
I think that the Excelsior income for this year is $115K and it will rise to $125K the next year and stay at that level. I don’t believe that I will qualify for 2020 -2021.

It says in this link that the income limit is $110,000 for 2018/19 and $125,000 for 2019/20.
Yes…apply. Send the info they ask for. They will determine your eligibility.
It looks like they are now accepting applications for Spring 2019 through mid-January.
