Should I even bother taking the SAT again?

I took the March SAT and got a 1190 (practiced day before test on khan academy) and then took the June SAT and got a 1270 (did some light prep). I just got my August SAT score and it dropped by 40 points. My 1270 is good enough to get me into most of the colleges I’m applying to but I was trying to increase it to a 1300 for merit scholarships. My school counselor advised me to take it again if I don’t get the score I want but it would be my fourth time taking the test. If I were to retake it I would take the November SAT but after seeing my score today I feel really discouraged. I also started considering taking the ACT one more time in October because I got a 23 on it without studying or any prior knowledge of the test. It was the mandatory school-wide test but my school notified us last minute about the test. I’ve been doing all this prep for the SAT so idk if it’s worth it to give the ACT another try or just focus on the SAT.

March SAT: R -13, W -14, M -19 (RW 590/M 600)
June SAT: R -17, W -5, M -12 (RW 610/M 660)
August SAT: R -17, W -8, M -11 (RW 600/M 630)

I would take it again if you can get a tutor to teach you those last test-taking skills and tricks. Good luck!
