Should I even try to apply for Cornell or JHU??

So I have a high GPA, weighted and unweighted, but SAT scores are slacking. My ECs are okay I guess. I have safety schools like Temple. UPitt, and Pennstate, and I feel like I should try to push myself to get into more difficult schools; yet with the SAT scores and ECs I have, is it even worth it to apply to a school such as Cornell or Johns Hopkins? Are my chances better if I apply early decision?
