College GPA: 3.8

I had a really difficult time in high school because of circumstances I won’t discuss on this forum (not mental illness). I plan on writing about this in my essays.

…Because of my HS ‘numbers’:

HS GPA: 3.3
ACT: 24

…Should I even waste my money on applying to:

I’m impressed with each of their sociology departments, but don’t see the point in applying if my application will be thrown out because of my high school ‘numbers’.

If you have schools you think would be a better ‘fit’ let me know so I can research their sociology departments.

I was accepted at Notre Dame with very very similar stats… I think you should definitely apply to Emory and Vanderbilt (and have a great shot because your story sounds compelling, your college stats are strong, and you’re passionate about your major).

I, however, really don’t know much about the other schools you listed… hopefully someone who does will write something…

Also, U Wisc./U. Mich./Berkley have great SOC departments… (I wouldn’t advise applying if OOS though).

You could retake the act? I don’t really see the point though being that it’s supposed 2 predict college performance…

Hopefully other ppl can offer advice, good luck!!

The “Go for its” are great, but I’m seriously wondering whether or not it would be a waste of money to apply. Do I seriously have a realistic shot at being accepted to any of these institutions?
