Should i expect the admissions readers to have read the book that i'm talking about

One of my essays asks what book character i would want as a roommate. I answered with a character from Wuthering Heights. I feel like my essay makes a lot more sense to someone who has read the novel. Is it reasonable to assume the readers have read it?

Yes, it’s reasonable to assume that the admission officers would be familiar with it, with at least one of them (if not several) having read it. It is a classic, after all. :)

Given the context of the question I’d assume they’d probably get a lot of distant-looking characters.

Regardless, they probably wouldn’t be analyzing the choice of your character, but more so how the character’s personality and traits would fit with yours, so the character itself wouldn’t really matter. More so how you explain why he/she would be a good roommate.
