Should I give up my class rank?

I’m a rising sophomore, and I have a 4.0 GPA. Due to scheduling conflicts last year, I had to take earth science instead of bio. This summer, I self studied and took a proficiency exam for honors biology at my school. Unfortunately, I got a B on it. Should I take the credit, or should I just take the class during the year? If I take the B, my rank will go down about 5-10 out of 490. How heavily does class rank factor into admissions? I’m pretty confident that if I take the class in school, I will ace it. The main reason I got a B was because I had to cram in all that info in about a month. But, if I take the class during the year, I will be behind and I won’t be able to take all the classes I planned on taking during high school. What should I do??

I think you should take the B. Take it from a rising senior: getting your required classes done is very important!

Rank is huge. Could you keep the class off your transcript and still be able to take AP Bio later?

I’m gonna beg my counselor to just give me the credits without actually calculating the grade into my GPA, but I doubt she’ll do that. If I take the B, I would take honors Chem and AP Bio this year.
