Should I go to Berkeley if I am concerned about my GPA?

Hi everybody,

I am a CCC transfer student applying for fall 2018 admission. Also, my major is Political Science. I have been thinking that I would like to go to Berkeley, for several reasons. First, I would love to go the bay area. I have lived in SoCal all of my life, and I’d like a change of scenery and the chance to explore many different things in NorCal. Second, I would like to go to law school, and I know Berkeley would effectively prepare me for the rigor of law school. Lastly, the prestige of the degree. But, I have heard from many people that your school does not matter. Also, since law school admissions are so dependent on GPAs, I have been thinking that Berkeley may not be the school for me, because of the insane difficulty in some of the courses. Also, grade deflation that is plagued across many disciplines in the university is quite worrisome.

I currently have a 3.9 GPA and I would like to at least stay within the 3.5+ range while in my upper-division courses. I know this is achievable, but I would also like to explore and meet new people.

What is your insight?

Everyone’s aware including law schools of grade deflation at Berkeley…I don’t think it will hurt you. Follow your heart. You can’t go wrong at Berkeley.

@preppedparent thank you. I hope it goes well

Go Golden Bears! C-A-L-I-FOR-NIA, California, California, yea!!!
