<p>hi guys, im currently a sophomore and i applied to choate as an incoming day student junior. im really conflicted as to whether i should go or not. i know its a great oppertunity, however, im doing so good at my public high school and im afraid if i went to choate id be at a disadvantage. thoughts/ suggestions/ opinions anyone?</p>

<p>Well, think of the reason why you first decided to apply. Was it any of the academics, athletics, or arts programs that caught your eye? Or was it the lack of challenge in curriculum and opportunities at your current school? Just remember why you wanted to go in the first place - you surely wouldn’t have gone through the whole application process without good reason! :)</p>

I suggest you call Choate to ask if you can speak w student there who entered under similar circumstances. Are you planning to attend a Revisit Day?</p>
<p>It is the social integration issue I would be more concerned about, rather than your academic competitiveness. My S tells me that, quite honestly, the day students at his BS are a bit alienated from the boarding students. In your situation, you will have to add to that the social challenge of coming in as a Junior, when the bulk of the students who have arrived as Freshmen or Sophomores have bonded for 1 or 2 years already.</p>
<p>I think the academic aspect should also be considered. Junior year is tough at every high school, but particularly at BS, with testing requirements, demanding AP/honors courses, and at Choate, it is the junior year GPA that is submitted to colleges. </p>
<p>However, apart from the social integration issue, in my S’s class, the day students at Choate are some of the strongest academically in the class and have excelled in many of the extracurricular activities as well (though most entered as freshman). GMT’s advice is good – definitely speak with a Choate student in similar circumstance to get a good feel.</p>
