Should I go to my dream school for 50k?

my knee-jerk reaction is pick Rutgers.

Are you in state? Rutgers shouldn’t be $50,000, more like $35,000. The 3 dorms my kids lived in were pretty horrible but they survived, but there are a variety, like most colleges older dorms in the thick of it, newer dorms less so. What is the cost difference?

I am coming into this a little late and a bit confused. Kean is not the dream school, correct? What is? S21 is graduating from BFA acting program at UNCSA this year so I have advice based on experience. BFA acting program names do make a difference. Resources and ability to get showcase experiences where there is actual exposure to agents does depend on the school. I have not heard of the Kean program so I would not suggest that if it is a financial reach. Rutgers BA acting is not the same as their BFA highly selective program and I would question what experience you will have in actual acting while there and what resources they have to help you get established after you have your degree. I would go where you want to be, neither name will make a difference for your career.

Just to put this out there, you can work in arts admininstration and marketing after having a pure BFA program. You can get intenships at theaters, dance companies and even museums in their outreach departments during the summers. My son will start working this summer in development at a major institution in NYC with just an acting degree and summer internships.

Adding to the above—acting is all consuming. It’s not easy to double major when one of your majors is theater/acting. If you are unsure that you want to be an actor, then don’t do it. Major in something else and take some acting classes or join a theater group. There are opportunities to participate in various theater groups on most college campuses.
