Hi, I’m an entering frosh into a state college in international studies, I was too scared to move away from family and friends so I didn’t apply to any big nice schools, nor did I think I could of afforded them anyway. I now realize my mistake of not following my dreams, so I plan on trying to transfer to a better school like, NU or something my junior year or at least trying to go to graduate school at the better school. I am extremely interested in history and foreign study, especially European but I love all areas of the world. I plan on to continue studying French so I can become fluent, and I also speak a little family danish.

How do you like Northwestern? What is the atmosphere like? The student body? The campus? I’ve looked into like Notre Dame, but I dunno if I like the whole religious affiliation thing. What should I realistically strive for to be able to transfer into Northwestern?

Successfully transfering to another university will be dependent on what classes you elect to take your freshman year, grades you earn, ECs in college & HS,coupled with your high school transcript. You are wise to strive for your dreams-for really that is what living is all about. Good Luck!

i transferred from a state u, and i think northwestern is probably the best place i could imagine being. you might want to read this thread for perspective on the student body/campus/environment:

additionally, you can do a search in the forums for something like “northwestern social life”

also, i found that the fiske college guidebook tends to be very accurate when describing life at northwestern as well as at other universities, and might help you see how they compare.

when i transferred to northwestern i had roughly a 3.76 (in an honors program) at a state school, 1480 SAT, helped to found a fraternity on campus, was philanthropy chair of the honors association, and sent in some supplemental material (things i had written and letters of congratulations, mostly).
