I am an international student. My dream school is Stanford. But it is NOT need blind to international students (I’ll need almost a full-ride). I have a choice to make: Which college to apply for early decision?

My heart says choose Stanford as I can always apply to other need-blind colleges in regular decision. My head says choose Harvard or some other college for early decision because they are need-blind.

Unless you are a(the) top student in your country. Do not apply Stanford ED, not only your chances are not good(about 1%) but also you may not be able to afford it. If you have a government grant to study abroad, then apply ED as you wish.

Come to think of it, with some of your AP score 3 and trying not to report, you should apply widely in lower ranking schools. Aiming at the top is just waste your time and money. Your hart and head are in the wrong place. I don’t even think Berea will take you as a full ride, which is known to give full ride to internationals need blind.

–This is why I don’t like CC. Newsflash: this is not a chance me thread.–

would that be the zealot with all of 5 posts who knows why s/he “doesn’t like CC”? puh-leeze.

perhaps you can explain to us when it is exactly that a question of applying to Harvard or Stanford ED does not involve one’s chances of getting into either?

This isn’t a ‘chance me’ thread per se, but your chances are inherently related to the question. You are presumably attempting to apply Early Decision at least in part in order to boost your chances at a particular school (I am assuming so because you’re deciding to apply ED between at least two universities. If you were using ED for it’s original purpose, which is to commit early to your top choice school, this wouldn’t be an issue). It’s also not uncommon for CC posters to use past posts you’ve given to help answer your question more fully - such as @artloversplus’s excellent advice to you using information you’d posted elsewhere. If you don’t like that, why are you asking questions here?

Well, that’s assuming that you get rejected. Getting rejected is never the problem in ED admissions, right? It’s getting accepted but not being able to afford to attend. Stanford is neither need-blind for internationals, nor do they meet 100% of full-financial need to international students. They say they admit just a small number of international citizens with some financial aid, which probably isn’t full need. So if you need almost a full ride to attend, I think you’d be better off focusing on applying ED to one of the 6 institutions that are both need-blind for int’ls and offer full demonstrated need.
