Should I have my counselor or teacher fill the form?

I noticed that we only need 1 evaluation form for USC, and that it can come from either a teacher or a counselor. Who should do it? I know both of them since September since I moved to another State and don’t have access to my old teachers.

(1) My AP Literature teacher knows me better, since I participate a good amount in her class. She likes me and I like her. I make her laugh all the time in class etc etc so the relationship is good. I currently have a B in the class, because of summer-reading (I was new and obviously hadn’t done it), but otherwise I’m getting all As in the class generally and the grade should bump to an A soon enough. I always put in original ideas into discussions so she knows I’m pretty smart.

(2) My Counselor knows me somewhat and once said that he’s impressed with me. I have already filled in a “brag-sheet” for him because I applied to a scholarship in September. He knows my story because of that brag sheet, but my English teacher does too, because she read and proofread my essays. (However, my English teacher doesn’t know all of my ECs and Awards as much, since I had given a resume to my counselor) Otherwise, he might not know me as well, since I don’t spend 1.5 hours with him per day.

A quick note / side question: will my counselor’s recommendation be USC’s only way of knowing my ranking etc? Because that stuff doesn’t show on our official transcripts. If I have my teacher do it, will USC not know that info? I guess that could be a good thing… my rank is unknown right now but I don’t think it’s amazing.

So who should I give the form to?

you can submit more than 1 rec. i say submit both. and you can also give your resume to your teacher before she writes the rec too.

sounds like a good compromise. but is there really any reason why i should have my counselor fill it in as well? in addition to my teacher

no, not really. if you don’t think your counselor will offer anything new about you, then you could just have the teacher write it. but if you think your counselor will write you a glowing rec, there’s no harm in submitting it.
