Hi, the Yale app asks for my AMC score. I took it my freshmen year without any prior practice. It was just some mandatory thing at my school so no one really cared.

I ended up getting the highest score in my grade AND the grade above me. However, it’s only an 81.

Should I still include it? It’s pretty low especially against Yale applicants.

Maybe you could include a note mentioning that it is the highest score? You could write that next to your score or just include it in the additional info section of the Common App.

As I recall from my son’s application, this wasn’t an optional question–I think you have to report any AMC scores if you took the tests. I wouldn’t worry about it at all, though, especially since you took the test as a freshman.

The average AMC of all male test takers was a 75, female average was a 71. So, while you scored well for your school and did above average, as @ZeeTee said, an 81 is not that impressive.

My GC told me to include it since it’s listed as one of my “achievements” on my common app. Do you think the low score would carry a lot of weight onto my decision?
Unless you’re planning to major in math, I don’t think it will affect the decision about your application at all. But I do think you have to report it.
@Planner Thanks for the reply! Oh damn, I’m majoring in economics…so it involves math lol. But my average in all my AP/Honors math classes are above a 96 so I hope they’ll take more of that into consideration.
@airspirit Economics isn’t math—and seriously, this score absolutely won’t matter. Without going into details, my son (not a math major, though interested in fields like economics that involve math) didn’t have a stellar score either on this test, and he got in early. So report your score but don’t worry about it!
