Should I include this in my application? [re: math & physics competition]

I secured the 228th position out of 1200 candidates in a national maths and physics competition. Which colleges do you believe will find this impressive?

The common app has 5 slots to list awards. Unless you have 5 awards that are more impressive, you should list this.

We don’t know what colleges find whatever impressive.

That you took the effort to participate - if you’re proud of it - add it.

I mean is the honor good enough for colleges with 30-40 acceptance rates like reed or Fordham?

Your awards are only a small part of your application. Your grades, test scores, course rigor, essays, and extracurricular activities are usually more important than awards. No one can give you the answer you are looking for based on the limited information you’ve provided.

To elaborate a bit - you ask if it is good enough. That question really doesn’t make sense. Is it so amazing that they will immediately accept you because of it? No. Is it so bad that they will immediately deny you because of it? No. It is just part of the picture that your entire application shows. There is no “good enough”.

Here is this poster’s other thread…for context. Strong international student.

That’s not him; that’s me. My friend is also applying to the US, and he used my account to ask whether his honor is competitive.
