I didn’t know I was going to get my associate’s until I spoke with my counselor, who told me I could get one in English lit and one in humanities. I already applied to UC’s and my TAG to Davis was accepted, but I’m still hoping for Cal and UCLA, even though they’re both a reach. Should I call up each school or the UC app center and let them know about my two AAs? I applied for comparative literature at Cal and UCLA, so would an AA in English literature somehow benefit my application if I were compared to someone with equal stats? Would it be negative to declare my associates? (I’ve read some posts here saying it would make me a lower priority applicant).

If you were stacked up with someone 100% identical to you with the same background, same PS, same GPA and everything, then in that scenario yes the tiny tiny tiny bonus that having an AA will give you would most likely be to your advantage in terms of admissions.

So if you can declare it go ahead an do it but unless you have a twin with identical stats it’s not gunna make a big difference.

I don’t think having an AA will give you the advantage in terms of admissions. It’s just a little nice perk for you. And no one is 100% identical. In terms of GPA, yes. But other factors such as personal statement, extracurricular activities, or other background - information tends to be different.

So long story short. If you want to get an AA, go for it. However, don’t think it’s going to give you the ultimate advantage in admissions. It’s just a nice thing to keep in your archives I guess?

@ocnative - notice how I used the words “if” and tiny tiny tiny

Lol I meant it would give the person with the AA who is 100% identical to the person non-AA a .01 extra point in admissions eyes.

Think about it, they must ask for some reason if you will have an AA that’s the reasoning.

@bomerr - if they wanted that that’s IGETC certified not AA, though many courses are the same between the two an AA is very different and does give a tiny tiny tiny .01 % boost lol asked a transfer rep.
