I just went to an awesome interview weekend in which I fell completely in love with the program, even though it is a very unconventional and unique one. Due to funding problems, they are making significant cuts (50%) in the interview round and admitting around 20 students out of 40 interviewed. While I think I did my best, you can never be sure… they were tough interviews.

During the weekend, I heard several competitive candidates say that they were not going to choose the program due to its small size and several factors which are a bit odd but nevertheless adds to the appeal for me. It breaks my heart to think about them being accepted while I am rejected… only to have them refuse to go.

I sent thank-you emails to my interviewers, of course not concealing my enthusiasm about the program. A few of them replied favorably (i.e. I hope you are admitted and that you will come), and I’m wondering if it’s appropriate to reply again indicating that I will certainly attend if admitted. Will this be too forward or desperate-sounding? Do you think it’s necessary, given that some professors I know are on the adcom said [the above] to me?

We won’t hear for another 2 weeks due to some students who haven’t interviewed yet and are coming on an odd date… I’m just so anxious/excited/scared. This is my dream program and I am loathe to let it slip through my fingers.
