Should I let USC's accepted rate discourage me?

They accept about 25% of students, but how realistic is that? Do I have a shot at the University of Southern California.

I am a sophomore in a Connecticut High School going into 11th next year. My GPA is around 3.75-3.8 unweighted and a 4.38 weighted. I am president in one club, possibly two. I am also a lead volunteer at Yale Hospital, volunteered for over 160 hours and I am a full-time writer for two sports websites. I take all honors classes and one AP class. I plan to double major in Finance or Economics and Journalism/ Communications. What are my chances at these schools?

I dont know what your chances are for USC but, regardless of what admissions statistics your dream school has, you should not be discouraged. Apply. From your post it sounds like you’d be a good candidate, but nothing is guaranteed; admissions boards are known to be unpredictable. You might get in, you might not. Just make sure you dont put all of your eggs into one basket. Don’t invest all your emotions into one school. Apply to other schools you’d be happy to attend. Pick a safety or two, just to avoid any chance you have of being left hanging in the wind come Fall.

Good luck.

Give it a shot. There is no reason to be discouraged.

Hmmmm… what type of response were you fishing for?

“Hey man! Be discouraged! 25% is way low. Don’t put yourself under so much pressure!”

LOL

Don’t stress. Good luck to you.
