I got a migraine during the psat and this probably prevented me getting NM commended (196 but I ended with a 59 in writing cause I just wanted to leave cause I was in so much pain eh)

Why is that relevant? It’s the PSAT, not like they even see your scores, and there are plenty of apps that don’t have anything NM related on them - I wouldn’t worry about it.

No. Not even if you get one during SAT. No one wants excuses.

It won’t change the fact that you’re not a NMSF/NMF, so colleges won’t be interested because even if your score is at the level, they can’t report it in statistics. Just make sure you do good on your SAT’s and show that you can score that high.

you are write about it in your essay, if you care about it that much

Don’t write about it. It’s a stupid excuse.

Definitely, definitely, definitely do NOT include that info on your apps (and certainly don’t write an essay on it as zala suggested ha… I’m hoping zala’s comment was sarcastic). Excuses never sound good. The PSAT doesn’t matter much and you will come off as whiny even if you aren’t. It’s generally best to avoid making excuses, unless you a have a very legitimate excuse/explanation for something on your app–and even then, it’s often better to have your GC stick up for you/explain your situation than to do so yourself.

Best of luck and I’m sorry you didn’t feel well during the PSAT! Don’t worry about it too much though. Doing well on your SAT/ACT is far more impressive and will be what really matters. :)

Do not write about it.

Is there a preventative medication you can take before the SAT incase the tension and lighting glare triggers another migraine?

Well the first thing I thought when I read the title of your thread is that you must be a whiny excuse-maker. Whether this is or isn’t true, don’t put it on your app.

Thanks for the advice. I probably won’t mention it, but I am wondering how I will be viewed to colleges if I do well on the SAT? If I score like a 2250 and another applicant scores a 2250 but has NMC/NMF will they look at my SAT score as being less reliable because I didn’t have a good PSAT score? This is what I am really worried about because everyone that gets NMF/NMC from my school gets into lots of great schools. not saying their is a correlation, but the history says their might be.

No, seriously it doesn’t matter. There are a ton of applicants who just missed the NM cutoff and got high scores on the SAT. This is really not worth your time to worry about. Just let it be and focus on important things.

I agree with blackeyedsusan. They really won’t care.
